Something nice to discuss at the dinner table...

Hey could you pass the milk please?

Q: Can Men Breastfeed?

A: Odd as it seems, men can lactate. In their 1896 book, Anomalies and Curiosities of Medicine, Dr. George Gould and Dr. Walter Pyle recount several occurrences of men breastfeeding their young. The stories include a sailor who put his son to his breast to quiet him and started producing milk; a South American peasant who sustained his child with his own breast milk during his wife’s illness; and a Chippewa man who put his infant to his breast following the death of his wife and produced enough milk to rear the child.

The phenomenon hasn’t stopped. In 2002, a Sri Lankan man named B. Wijeratne lost his wife and was left to care for their 18-month-old daughter. When the child refused powdered milk, Wijeratne tried something different. “Unable to see her cry, I offered my breast,” Wijeratne told a Sri Lankan newspaper. “That’s when I discovered I could breastfeed.”

Wijeratne isn’t alone. All men can breastfeed, because they possess the two most vital components for lactating—mammary glands and pituitary glands. Mammary glands, which produce milk, are present in all mammals. In fact, they’re one of our defining characteristics. In some cases, such as with mice, the mammary glands of the males are too underdeveloped to function. In humans, however, they’re fully formed in both sexes, complete with breastfeeding ducts and nipples.

Of course, for a human to actually breastfeed, those mammary glands have to be activated somehow. In women, this usually happens during pregnancy, when the brain’s pituitary gland starts releasing large amounts of a hormone called prolactin, which prepares the breasts to produce milk.

All men produce small amounts of prolactin during their lifetimes. It’s released after orgasms, for example, and may be responsible for the associated feelings of satisfaction and relaxation. But typically, it’s never present in large enough quantities for men to breastfeed. Under the appropriate psychological circumstances, however, the mind can demand that the body produce more of the hormone. This often happens to mothers who adopt children and suddenly find they can nurse. And as Dr. Gould and Dr. Pyle have documented, there’s a long history of it happening in men, too.

Yeah, yeah, my Wii Fit is going to set me straight once again

Yes, I have been lazy, I have not wanted to do a damn thing except eat junk. I probably will get on the board and it will tell me that I have not been on and that I'm fat(again)

Oh well.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone enjoying my bunny cake I made for the Easter party tomorrow! I also made deviled eggs which I rock at.

My perty bunny cake(the cake is from a box mix but the frosting is homemade):

I know I haven't blogged in awhile but seeing that I have no life I didn't have much to write about. I still have my unwatched Twilight movie that I had to buy at midnight last Friday, guess I should snuggle in bed with the soldier boy and get him to watch it with me.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Redoubt Eruption

So the moment we in Alaska were finally waiting for. Yes, the volcano erupted but I haven't seen any ashes, but we are ready with masks and such if need be.

Some info about the volcano:

The 10,200-foot Redoubt Volcano, roughly 100 miles southwest of Anchorage, last erupted during a four-month period from 1989-90.

It erupted 5 times last night the news says.

I think we'll be fine but we all still need to be prepared for anything!

Why I love Military one source

This is the site of all military sites. Anything you want to know, anything you are confused about, if you need help, ANYTHING, this site is for you!

Check it out sometime!

My crazy ideas

I mainly made up this blog to give advice, websites, and information to new Army Wives. My creativity kinda sparked after my bff's hubby joined the army and I had been giving her ideas and how to live the new life as an Army spouse. I realize that there are tons of sites kind of like this but I"m going to put in my perspective since I have lived this life since I was 8 years old. I will keep posting new ideas and info as they come so check back often!

I'm going to get serious this post

Because what had happened really burnt my biscuits. Why is it that Obama can go on Leno and make a "joke" about Special Olympics but if someone, oh, like say Bush say something and it's

OMG, no he didn't!

And we would hear about it for the next year. I am so sick of Mr. "I can do no wrong". I am sorry if you are an Obama supporter but his lack of tact and class is making me sick. Why isn't the media anyone saying anything about his BS attitude (I.E. giving British Royalty 15 dollar DVD's and cheap plastic helicopters).

Then he had the audacity(are you happy now "art by chocolate" that I spelled it correctly for you?) to hurry up and high tail it to the SO so he can apologize for his "joke"

Whatever, he isn't fooling me and he never had.

These next 4 years are going to be sooo great....< / end sarcasm >

Here is "The One" being oh so funny...

No, seriously!

So a friend of mine on Cafemom shared this awesome Etsy page and I couldn't help but share with everyone else. This lady over at Betty Mae Bakery sells her goods for...get this...

ONE FREAKING PENNY!

Okay, seriously, how can she fight a dieter's ways by doing this? How could she do this to me, the one who is vulnerable?

Well, crap, how can I resist...I think I may have a penny or two in our paycheck from the Army...

Why do this to me???

Now, I know I may be a snob to some things but I will NOT, can NOT fathom the thought of having or cooking Hamburger Helper. I am not going to look down on anyone else who likes it but I do not and it drives the hubby crazy. I tell him "Why should I buy a box of noodles and an oversalted sodium packet when I can make it better and healthier?" One of my favorite foods that are looked down by most people is sushi. I freaking love the stuff with soy sauce, ginger, and wasabi...I can eat that as a meal its so good!

MM-How Bizarre OMC

I freaking LOVE this song and, yes, I have a story behind it(because, as Clint Black says, Every Melody has a memory!)

The story:
This song was popular when I was a senior in high school. My BFF Tara and I had a thing for this guy named Jeremy Beatty. Every song that had the word baby in it we would replace with Beatty. This song was really great because well, this was the chorus:

Ooh baby, (ooh baby)
It's making me crazy, (it's making me crazy)
Everytime I look around
Look around
Everytime I look around
Everytime I look around
Everytime I look around
It's in my face

And well, you get the point! Here is the video if you don't remember!

My big boy!

So now little man decided the other day that he wants to start going pee in his urinal I got him.

The story:

The other day I was checking e-mail and in came little man with a shirt on and no diaper, he came up to me and said "I peed!" I said(in complete shock) "what? Where's your diaper?" He said "mommy I went pee!" Of course I jumped for joy since these past months he had refused to pee anywhere but in his diaper. Yesterday he wanted the diaper back on but then after awhile decided that he wanted to go potty and put on his big boy underwear.

Fine with me!

Today he went potty all day! I am so proud of him! I did get him those Goodnites Boxers but he didn't like the way they felt so I'll keep them for awhile and maybe he'll eventually wear them. For now I'll put diapers on him at night.

Eeek! I hope this "I need to go potty" thing is not temporary!

My birthday dinner

So miss Crista got drunk at Applebees with the girls! I had such a blast! I didn't take much pictures because of my intoxication but I had my friend whos a photographer here in the Anchorage area use my camera and she takes excellent shots!

Me and my girl Liz

You're gonna miss this moment

My favorite things on the net to do is find other people's blogs and this one touched my heart. Pam is the author of this blog and I really love her "You're gonna miss this moment" posts and so I decided to get in on this great weekly post.

But first I have to put up the song by Trace Adkins because its so beautiful. I can't post the official video since it is disabled so I put up the one where he's on my favorite soap, The Young and the Restless

These are the moments I will miss most:

My baby boy who loves kisses
And I tried to get mad at princess for doing this but it was too darn cute:

My Wii Fit Experience

So for Wii Fit Friday I am a guest blogger on Corrine's blog(4kidsnodog) so here is my post for her blog.

I am on day 26 of Wii Fit, which of about 15 I have actually done. I am getting more motivated as I have been doing this for 4 straight days and my abs are killing me! The Super hula hoop is the prime suspect, but a good one at that! My goal for that exercise is doing 2000 in 6 minutes. I am up to about 1800 so I'm still working at it. The balancing is getting much better than the first week and my trainer is so awesome! She does remind me, however, that I am too shaky and I need to keep practicing. All the exercises are very good and it will let me challenge myself if need be. I challenged myself the other day and decided to free run for 10 minutes. That means I can run in place and watch TV and the Wii remote will talk to me to let me know my progress. You can do this with the step dancing also.

I recommend this for anyone who needs to lose weight and/or keep in shape.

PLUS...

Wii Fit will never let you live it down if you miss a day or two!

My guest blogger

I had so much fun watching my guest blogger, Stacey over at tree, root, and twig's vlog. She didn't have time to do her Wii Fit for about a week so her family and her came up with quite an original way of using the Wii Fit board. I love this original idea and maybe if you get a few friends who are familiar with the game to come over and have a Wii Fit board charade game!

Check it out!

I registered to walk!

MM-Walking in Memphis

Every Monday LadyJava does Music Mondays so here is mine for the week:

Marc Cohn~Walking in Memphis

This song will always be dear to my heart and I will tell you why. My dad went to the Gulf War after we moved to Ft. Polk, LA. I was I think about 10 years old. My mom decided that my sister, mom, and I would travel to Illinois for Christmas. It was oh-so-much fun. It was us 3 plus I think we brought my cat at the time (she died when I was 18) in our little 1989 Chevy Cavalier (Oh the memories of that old car, I miss it!). It was snowing like mad crazy when we got to Tennessee and we stayed at a Holiday Inn.

Every time I hear this song I will always remember traveling with my mom and sister during a snowstorm!

Come join Music Monday and share your songs with us. One simple rule, leave ONLY the actual post link here. You can grab this code at LJL Please note these links are STRICTLY for Music Monday participants only. All others will be deleted without prejudice.

Join the First Commenters Club!

From Mariuca's Blog:

When I first started giving out free linky love to my First Commenter (FC) for any star posts that you see here or at MPG, I did not think it would end up being so much FUN! Soon after, several blogger friends followed suit in showing appreciation for their First Commenter by giving out free linky love as well.

Some vary the way the link is given while others add EC credits on top of the free linky love. However it's done, there's no denying the fun that we've enjoyed in trying to win that much coveted FC spot in order to be featured at the host blog. So after much thinking and conferring with my BFF confidante LadyJava, I've decided to make things formal by starting a brand new
First Commenter Club!

I think most of you who are already giving away linky love to your First Commenter realize by now that this is indeed a wonderful way for us to thank our commenters who make the effort to stop by and comment on our blogs. It is also a great way to increase your traffic and comments as bloggers are more inclined to drop by your blog to see if you have a new star post out in hopes of winning the free link back that you are giving away.

The FC Club will house all members under one roof. This will make it easier for us bloggers to visit and get to know one another better. Furthermore, all members would be aware of which blogs are giving away free linky love to their first commenters, thus encouraging other FC members to visit your blog!

The rules are simple, because we like things simple and sweet.

1. Your blog gives away FREE linky love to your FIRST COMMENTERS.
  • It doesn't matter how many times in a month you have FC linky love posts at your blog but do take note that the tendency of other bloggers visiting you (to win the linky love you are giving away) increases with the number of FC linky love posts you write.
2. Display the FC button and blogroll in your sidebar.
  • Once we have finalized the FC Club member list, please come back here to get your code for the complete blogroll of Members.
Here is the badge to display at your sidebar.

3. We are looking for 100 blogs only so HURRY!
  • For now, our membership drive is open to the first 100 blogs that qualify. All types of blogs are welcomed to join the FC Club, but we draw the line at blogs that are pornographic in nature.

So what are you waiting for? Keep your readers coming back for more by joining the First Commenter Club. Start showing your love and appreciation for your readers and commenters today!

Is it really possible?

To have too many purses? Hubby thinks so after I keep asking him for a Dooney and Bourke purse.

This one:

He thinks its unnecessary to buy yet another purse, let alone one that costs 175 dollars. I only have like 6 purses...what is so wrong with that?

Men will never understand. But then again, I never understand them either.

Friday, March 6, 2009

Some things I will never understand about the male species(ok, just my husband)

Why is it that men can nonchalantly scratch themselves and move things around...in public (or at home in front of my face) and noone cares? If women scratch themselves they must have STD's to some people...how dare she do that?

So one day I go, "hun, why must you scratch yourself in front of me?"

Hubs: Because they get all sweaty and I have to move them around.

Thanks for that visual about your sweaty sack.

I thank God everyday that I am a female.

Thanks Wii Fit, I appreciate it...

So I skipped a friggen day of Wii Fit, is it okay to skip ONE day?

The Wii Fit tells me HELL no.

"I noticed you were too busy to work out yesterday."

Well hi to you too Wii Fit.

I did lose 2 lbs though so there!

Wednesday, March 4, 2009

Well, if you can't say something nice, come sit by me!

So Mama Kat has the weekly writers workshop, one that I actually could pick and write about with no problem.

I was always fat. I always had a problem with it. Immature little boys would remind me of my fatness daily which was so annoying. I didn't have a boyfriend until I was 17 and it didn't last but a week mainly because he went to college and never had time for me. My husband was the one guy that had been true to me.

Words that (used) to hurt me:
1) PORK! (that was yelled down the hall in school)
2) fatty, fatty 2x4
3) Wow, I can't believe you can get through the door!

Those were only a few. I wasn't huge but I was chunky and it was a constant reminder throughout my school age years. I will prove them all wrong. My goal is to have my picture in Maxim(the front where guys send in pics of their girlfriends). I am working on it with Wii and alli.

I will not be fat forever, I promise myself and my children that. I also have learned to ignore the immature little boys because they are the ones who are insecure, not me!

A bit of my life as an army brat, culture shock, and why I think soldiers are sexy

So I'll give you a little tidbit about when my dad joined the army. I was 8 years old and I was a holy terror...mainly because I was leaving the only little town I ever knew, friends, and family. I rebelled bad. Don't make fun of me(but I know you will) but I grew up in a town of 4800 people, which were 98% white, the others were Mexican and I think we had a few mixed black/white. I had never seen a black person except in (this is where you are going to laugh) my textbooks and TV.

Ok, you can shut up now!

So anywho. We moved from my little town in Illinois to Ft. Polk, Louisiana. This is where I got my first taste of culture shock. I learned a lot of very interesting words and slangs and so-forth. I got my first crush on a boy who was black. My parents freaked out because I was totally in love with him. But there was nothing I could do about it plus he liked another girl anyway. So that was done and over with.

So we moved all over. I moved back home when I was almost 16 when my dad had to go to Korea. I was so stoked to be able to see my friends again! So I went back to school there for my sophomore year. We moved to Ft. Stewart, GA (my all-time fave post and where I met hubby!). I was a Junior and only went to the school in GA for one year. I begged my parents and my grandma to move back to IL for my senior year and got to go. I then went to college there for one semester and moved back home to Ft. Stewart, GA...I was 18...mmmhmm....

So, this is the part where you can stop if you are easily offended or don't like reading about sex and things of that sort.

So I was of legal age and surrounded by hot soldier boys in BDU's, let me tell you I was in high heaven y'all. I always knew that guys look hot in uniform, I knew that since day one when we moved to an army base for the first time. Well, I did my share of meeting guys off the internet, I had a few not so good ones, and ones who didn't click. I lost my virginity to an MP, of all soldiers, it had to be one of those. I didn't mean to, but he was totally hot and well, yeah. I was bad y'all. I was promiscuous and it was funny because the guys thought that they were using me....ha.ha.ha. Yeah, I let them think that. I couldn't stop fantasizing about soldiers, even when my dad used to bring his buddies home I couldn't stop thinking about stripping them down to just their dog tags and doing naughty things to them.

I met my hubby at the sports bar in Stewart. I wanted him. I got him home and we didn't do anything til the next morning. He called me the next day..I was like "WTH?" when my sister mouthed "Its him!" when she answered the phone. Our non-platonic friendship lead to full on dating. We were engaged that same year on Christmas and I said "Yes, but its going to be a long engagement" (He was getting stationed to Germany that next month, we all moved there a few months later)

I love soldiers y'all. I didn't want to marry them, I just wanted their tight muscular bodies and I have to tell you the smell of motor oil and Kiwi shoe polish still gets me hot...unfortunately hubby wears boots that don't need to be shined but the motor oil smell still gets to me. My craving for soldiers still has not gone away. I will sometimes have to pick up hubby or drop him off at work and I still can't help myself fantasizing. Its a bad habit. I love my husband but there is no law against thinking about his buddies in nothing but their dog tags...haha

MM-NKOTB

So I was born in *ahem* 1980. I know, I'm not that old but hey, at least I can be one of the many tween girls in the late 80's, early 90's to be in love with New Kids on The Block!(My bff is still a fan and still goes to the concerts!). This one is my fave and I play it loud and belt it out loud!

Lyrics | New Kids On The Block lyrics - Step By Step lyrics

Another (healthy) excuse to drink wine

So we all know that red wine is good for the heart right? Well, new studies show that it also protects against Esophageal Cancer. I am sure you are like me and go, "what is Esophageal Cancer? Well, no matter, another excuse to drink me some wine!" Well, this is what Yahoo News says:

Barrett's esophagus, which affects about 5 percent of the population, occurs when heartburn or acid reflux permanently damages the lining of the esophagus. People with this condition are 30 to 40 times more likely to develop a type of esophageal cancer called esophageal adenocarcinoma. In the last 30 years, the incidence of esophageal cancer in the United States has increased 500 percent.

So go ahead, drink and be merry and lets fight heart disease AND Esophageal Cancer together!

Cheers!

One of my favorite muthas!

So I have never met Rocky but I have stalked read her blog for almost 2 years now. She has never ceased to amaze me. She has an incredible blog which you can check out here. She has been volunteering for Global Volunteer Network for a couple years now and has traveled to Kenya and Africa. She is a mom of 6, which 2 of them are adopted from Guatemala. She has been an inspiration to others and I can't stop gushing about how great she is! I hope everyone checks her blog out and sends her lots of love!

Also, Underwear for Africa is one of the programs that Rocky has created and has been a really big hit! Check it out here
