Is it break up time here or what?(I hope)

So this morning my husband let me know that it must be getting warmer here because the snow is starting to melt. I, of course, got all excited and had to look. The dreariness of the Alaska winter has gotten to me to the point where depression sets in and all you look forward to is what Alaskans call "break up". I have noticed that since this is our first winter here that people, like us, who aren't from here stay hibernated in their homes and when summer hits the people that you thought just moved in come out of their cozy homes to greet everyone. This happens every year so I'm told. I can't stand it an I don't know why people love it here so much. I guess because its beautiful scenery but that gets old after awhile and what else do you do? Well, I know that people who love to hunt, fish, camp, and ski would be paradise for them but what do the other people do? I guess we hibernate with the rest til "break up" hits then we look forward to summer where we have 22 hour daylight.

Well, I can't say much about living here but this is where the army sends us and my husband is pretty much the army's b@tch so to speak (sorry but anyone in the military knows I'm right!) Sometimes I wonder why the military would move families to weird and exotic places.

Oh well, I'm just taking it day by day anxious for us to move back to the good 'ol USA (and btw, this isn't the United States and anyone who has lived here knows that!)

I can't stand the cold. I live on the coast in Alabama, right near the beach. We bitch all summer about how hot it is, but I don't think I could deal with the constant snow.
That said, I would love to visit Alaska for a while. I always thought I would want to live there if it wasn't for the fact that I would be seperated from my family, but then I remember the cold again:) (I mainly wanted to live there because of the Dana Stabenow series about an Aleut woman. Interestingly enough, one of her books is titled Breakup, and it's about how everyone goes a little crazy that time of year)
